When I was scrolling through my Facebook Feed at that point, it struck me "what am I doing?" I should be doing something worthwhile instead of meaningless scrolling. Hence, I exited Facebook and opened a medium app (platform where I share my write-up). An article's headline caught my attention as it was associated with the thought I was recently going through. The article was about things you can do instead of scrolling on social media. As a result, I ended up writing this piece.


So, the purpose of this piece is to share stats and things you can do instead of meaningless scrolling to help you quit scrolling. And do something productive rather than wasting time using smartphones.


Following are the stats regarding Smartphones usage:

- Around 46% of smartphone users spend 5-6 hours using their phone.

- The average adult spends 3 hours and 54 minutes daily on their smartphones.

- The percentage of people suffering from Nomophobia among men is 58% and 47% for women.

- The average pick-up time is approx 150-344 times daily.


Now let's talk about what you can do instead of consuming social media content.

- As Muslims, we must build a connection with Allah. For that, we can do adhkar, make lots of duas (asking Allah is also an act of worship), and recite the Holy Quran.

- You can Start your own YouTube channel where you can share valuable content.

- You can start reading books, magazines, blogs, etc.

- Invest time in learning skills. Youtube and Google is the best source for learning anything.

- Another best thing you can do is spend quality time with family and friends.

- Doing a healthy activity can also prove to be beneficial. You can take a walk or start doing some exercise (indoor or outdoor) which will help you to be in better shape.

- You can start some part-time work too. Where you'll be able to earn good money for yourself.


The idea is to put your time into valuable things which will shape your future, and you'll be able to quit this toxic habit of seamless scrolling

 

P.S You can use different apps - some smartphones have this built-in feature - to monitor your screen timing, app timings, and how many times you unlock your phone screen. It'll help you in monitoring your time and redirect your efforts accordingly.
