Never leave the blessing of Suhur (Pre Dawn Meal)

Never leave the blessing of Suhur (Pre Dawn Meal) - The Saadat Khalid blog

Are you among those who leave the sehri? Then you are missing numerous blessings and Sunnah.

Sehri (Pre Dawn meal) or Suhur; Eating food before Fajar - midnight, especially last hours - for the preparation of keeping the fast.

Many of us don't eat sehri. Thus, we miss all the Baraka of this particular meal.

We miss this meal maybe because we don't know its significance and how essential it is.

Some of us abandon it because of our laziness or aren't profound about waking up and having the Suhur. Or many of us sleep with a full stomach, so we don't have the desire to eat anymore. Whatever the reason may be, we are missing this golden opportunity.

Many hadiths refer to insisting upon having the sehri. Like this one which Anas bin Malik narrates:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Take Suhur as there is a blessing in it." - Sahih al-Bukhari 1923

In this hadith, The Prophet (ﷺ) mentions that the pre-dawn meal is a blessing. And yet we are the ones who are losing this opportunity to receive the benefits.

In one of the other hadith, it is stated that Suhur differentiates between us (Muslims) from Ahl e Kitab ( Jews and Christians)

ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr [may Allāh be pleased with him] said the Messenger of Allāh [praise and security of Allāh be upon him] said:

"The distinguishing feature between our fast and the fast of the People of the Book is the eating of the pre-dawn meal." - Sunan Al Kubra 8118

So, How come we can miss Suhur after that?

Eating sehri is a blessing and Sunnah. If you do not have the Suhur, you ignore this Sunnah and are fasting while leaving the Sunnah behind.

An additional reason is when you wake up for Suhur; it is the time for the Tahajud. So, you will be able to offer the Tahajud prayer, too. And along with that, after having Suhur, you will be offering the Fajar prayer. Indeed, it is a blessing upon blessing.

Hence, don't leave the Suhur. Follow the Sunnah and distinguish yourself from Jews and Christians. Have Sehri even with eating a date or drinking water. And earn all the blessings.

May Allah allow all of us to act upon this. (Ameen)
